Tribal Belly dance: gypsies

Tribal style: gypsy dancers

In 1780, a German philologist compared the grammatical construction of the language of the Gypsies with the dialects spoken in India. Studies by other philologists and travelers confirmed that these wanderers, known over the world as Tziganes, Zigeuner,Gypsies, Czigany,Zingari, Bohémiens had the same cradle as the Jats, living near the mouth of the Indus river. Homer spoke of them as Sygynes.

Another investigator, de Goeje, noticed that in Islamic chronicles the wandering tribes were frequently mentioned under the Zotts (or Zitts), and made the deduction that they were the same as the Jats or Gypsies.
According to the Arab authors these tribes lived long ago at the mouth of the Indus river.
The Gypsies lived in the present India long before the present inhabitants. They are not Hindus but of pre-Hindu origin.
According to some sources they Gypsies would have come from Egypt. It is true that they moved over from Egypt to macedonia to and fro during the centuries. And in Romania and Macedonia they became known as Pharons (from Pharao) as a connotation to their presumed origins.
